He decided to give me a general treatment, placing needles in my neck, face, arms, hands, knees, and feet and leaving me for about 20 minutes in the quiet and dark room. In our initial discussion, Adrian explained the theories of acupuncture - how the meridians where he placed the needles correspond with the flow of Qi, energy - and I really felt a strong sense of the energy flowing and pumping through my body as I lay there. It was relaxing and invigorating at the same time; I felt like I was having a strange trip, seeing vivid colors change behind my eyelids and slipping in and out of consciousness, while focusing on the present and what my body was experiencing. I’m getting better, but I often have trouble quieting my mind and meditating. I found the acupuncture to be helpful in this regard: I was able to give in to the moment and just observe my body.
When Adrian came in to complete the session I didn't want it to end. He left two tacks in my shoulders, one on each side, to continue to loosen my back after I left and they lasted a good 5 days. The tightness normally felt between my shoulders greatly improved and while it eventually came back, I know it has a lot to do with the fact that I work a desk job and hope that continued acupuncture, yoga, stretching and awareness will help lessen the tightness.
I left feeling calm and happy and noticed improvements in the areas I had focused on with Adrian. The procedure was completely painless, interesting and enjoyable, and will definitely become part of my wellness practice.
